Finance Committee Approves Tax Relief for Hundreds of Nonprofits

The Knesset Finance Committee approved tax benefits for hundreds of nonprofits on Wednesday under Section 46 of the Income Tax Ordinance, allowing their donors to claim tax credits. The organizations work in welfare, religion, health, education and culture. Some Haredi institutions were excluded following the attorney general's position on yeshiva students liable for military service. MKs Moshe Gafni and Yitzhak Pindrus opposed approving the lists with those exclusions. Committee chairman Hanoch Milwidsky said the Tax Authority director had proposed three-month approval followed by further review, but the attorney general had rejected that arrangement; the lists passed despite the objections.
