Haredi Protesters Surround Shas MK Malchieli Over Draft Law

Shas MK Michael Malchieli left Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef’s weekly Jerusalem lesson after Selichot on Saturday night when a group of Haredi protesters surrounded the vehicle he entered. The protesters pounded on the car and repeatedly shouted “Malchieli murderer”; Rabbi Yosef also entered the vehicle. The protest followed Malchieli’s support for advancing the conscription bill and came amid anger among some Shas voters over the legislation. The report described no injuries, arrests, property damage or police intervention and attributed the confrontation to a group of protesters, not the wider Haredi public.
