The Haredi Draft Protests
Where it stands
Haredi protesters blocked Highway 1 and dozens of major roads in June against arrests of yeshiva students who refuse draft notices. Protesters later clashed with IDF guards at Military Prison 10, and in late September marches honored men released from military prison. On October 6, protesters in Modiin obstructed a military police arrest of a yeshiva student, who was released after negotiations, and Mayor Haim Bibas called for a police and army review.
