Military Police Leave Modi’in After Protesters Block Deserter Arrest

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of an archival 2004 residential panorama of Modi’in and Re’ut, with pale stone homes overlooking a green valley and apartment buildings. Contextual city view; it does not depict the October 6, 2026 military-police operation or its participants.

Military-police personnel left a building in Modi’in early on October 6 after protesters obstructed an operation to arrest a young man whom Israel Police described as a deserter. Israel Police said officers were working to rescue the soldiers and restore order after disorder broke out during the operation. The young man, an Ohr HaChaim yeshiva student, was released following negotiations, and the military-police personnel departed. His release did not appear in the police announcement, which addressed the disturbance and efforts to extract soldiers.
