Police Reopen Route 443 After Draft Absentee Arrested in Suspected Stolen Car

Jerusalem Envelope Border Police and crossing personnel stopped a Jerusalem-bound vehicle at the Ofer checkpoint on Route 443 after it was reported stolen. Police arrested the driver, an Ashdod resident in his 20s, and said a subsequent check showed he was absent from mandatory military service. Dozens of protesters then blocked Route 443, and Judea and Samaria District officers used stun grenades while clearing the roadway. The route reopened after about an hour, while Modi’in Illit police continued investigating the suspected vehicle theft; no verified report described injuries.
