Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu said at an election panel at Ironi Alef High School in Tel Aviv that he would not want to recruit a Kaplan protester for combat if that person might not charge. The remark came during a discussion of Haredi enlistment, reservists and the protest movement, after Likud candidate Shlomo Lerner criticized the school’s combat-enlistment rate. Former MK Izhar Shay replied that his son Yaron, killed fighting at Kerem Shalom on October 7, had protested at Kaplan, charged Hamas terrorists and saved civilians. MK Naor Shiri said the school’s pupils enlist.
