Attorney General Seeks Further Court Directives on Draft Enforcement

Israel’s attorney general has asked the High Court of Justice to consider further operational directives on enforcement of military-service obligations, according to an October 21 statement issued on her behalf by the Justice Ministry. In her update to the court, she said draft noncompliance was widespread, with approximately 110,000 people liable for service violating the law. She said the state was not using the full range of enforcement tools available to it. The proposed additional directives concern withdrawing economic benefits from people who do not comply with their conscription obligations.
