United Torah Judaism chairman MK Yaakov Asher urged National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir not to support increased arrests of Torah students during the election period. In remarks reported on October 7, Asher accused Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara of using police under Ben Gvir's responsibility as a political instrument to intensify arrests. He alleged that this would create unrest and division, presenting the attorney general's actions as an election campaign. His appeal came amid reports of renewed military-police enforcement and recent arrests in Eilat, Beersheba and Modi'in.
