Gafni Tells Degel HaTorah Conference: 'We Rose on Obedience to Torah Sages'

MK Moshe Gafni addressed Degel HaTorah council members and the party's Knesset list on Saturday night at the religious Kibbutz Hafetz Haim, a month before the election. It was reported as his first public comment since Rabbi Dov Landau informed him and MK Uri Maklev that they would leave the Knesset to make way for new representatives, with Yaakov Asher heading the list. "We rose on obedience to the Torah sages," Gafni said. "Even when they tell us right is left and left is right, we listen." A letter from Rabbi Moshe Hillel Hirsch read at the gathering called the election a matter of pikuach nefesh for the community.
