Asher Backs Rabbi Dov Landau and Calls for Respect for Haredi Religious Autonomy

United Torah Judaism chairman Yaakov Asher voiced support for Rabbi Dov Landau at a public conference on October 13, saying that some halakhic matters had been given a political interpretation. Asher described Rabbi Landau as his generation's leading Torah scholar and expressed appreciation for the Religious Zionist public. "We respect their path. Do not impose it on us," he said, referring to the approach of Religious Zionists and the Haredi community. Asher added that he identifies with Rabbi Landau's statements and can ask him for clarification when he does not understand them.
