Mamdani and Israel
Where it stands
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani refused to back Israel as a Jewish state, then said his administration was examining whether it could arrest Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during the UN General Assembly. President Donald Trump said Netanyahu would not be arrested, and Mamdani acknowledged he lacked independent authority. Israel's consul general Ofir Akunis, who accused Mamdani of incitement, has invited him to an October 7 screening of the IDF's film documenting the Hamas-led attack's atrocities.
