Jewish Federations Chief Says Mamdani's Rhetoric Is Fueling Attacks on Jews in New York

Eric Fingerhut, president and chief executive of the Jewish Federations of North America, said in an interview published Wednesday that New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani's statements and actions have incited and contributed to incitement to violence. He said Mamdani's descriptions of Israel, its prime minister and Zionism hurt a Jewish community he described as 90 percent Zionist and supportive of Israel. Fingerhut described a very high level of threat over the past 12 to 18 months, and said Iran explicitly supports it and that he believes China amplifies it on social media. He said every federation has built a security plan, and called cooperation with the FBI and Justice Department excellent.
