A petition by relatives of people murdered in the September 11 attacks topped 5,000 signatures Sunday afternoon while urging the National September 11 Memorial & Museum to exclude New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani from the 25th-anniversary commemoration. Organizer Giovanni Galante, whose wife Grace Catherine Galante was among the 2,977 people killed by al-Qaeda, said the effort centers on Mamdani's public record and associations. Earlier published counts exceeded 1,100 signatures. The memorial said the ceremony is deliberately nonpartisan and elected officials attend only to bear witness, without speaking.
