Hochul and Blakeman Clash Over Antisemitism in New York Governor Debate

Antisemitism and the safety of Jewish New Yorkers became points of dispute when Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul and Republican challenger Bruce Blakeman, the Nassau County executive, met in their sole scheduled gubernatorial debate on Tuesday evening. Blakeman raised the 1991 Crown Heights riots while questioning whether Jewish residents would be protected under New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. Hochul accused Blakeman of undermining confidence in the NYPD. The candidates also exchanged criticism concerning Mamdani and President Donald Trump during the debate.
