U.S. Rep. Josh Gottheimer accused New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani of blaming victims and attacking Israel in his statement marking the third anniversary of October 7. Gottheimer told the mayor that he was making a painful day for Jews worse. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz separately condemned the statement as desecrating the memory of murdered Jews and defended Israel’s right to defend itself. Mamdani’s official statement described Hamas’s killings and abductions as horrific war crimes, but also accused Israel of genocide in Gaza and criticized U.S. arms shipments. The congressmembers’ criticism responded to that anniversary statement.
