The Attorney General Law
Where it stands
Simcha Rothman's bill to split the attorney general's role passed a first reading in June before its prosecutor-general clauses were separated. The Knesset passed the Attorney General Law on July 15, letting the government reject the attorney general's opinions and set its own position in court. Bezalel Smotrich and Rothman prepared a next-stage plan to split the role, and Likud candidate David Peter called for the attorney general to be an elected minister.
