Gafni Conditions Attorney General Bill Support on Haredi Kindergarten Funding

United Torah Judaism chairman Moshe Gafni said Wednesday that his party would not support the attorney-general powers bill until the government restores a decision concerning funding for Haredi kindergarten teachers. The warning came shortly before the Knesset's final vote, after the funding decision was removed from the government's agenda. Constitution Committee chairman Simcha Rothman prolonged his plenum remarks while coalition officials held talks with Haredi lawmakers. Religious Zionism criticized the ultimatum, arguing that defeat of the bill would preserve Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara's current authority.
