Rothman Splits AG Bill to Beat Knesset Clock

Constitution Committee chairman Simcha Rothman told members Saturday evening that the attorney-general split bill may be divided before Sunday's hearing. The first package would shrink the huge bill to about 500 sections and move already debated clauses on binding legal opinions, state representation and oversight toward second and third readings. Rothman framed the move around the tight calendar before Knesset dissolution. Israel needs elected governments able to govern, but legal reform should be passed transparently and in a way that strengthens public trust.
