U.S. Envoy Says Mamdani Cannot Arrest Netanyahu During UN Visit

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz said New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani cannot carry out threats to arrest Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a September UN visit. Waltz wrote that the United States is not a party to the Rome Statute and that federal authority overrides the mayor's wishes. He called the proposal political theater and said it would not happen. Mamdani had said his administration was discussing the idea with city lawyers while acknowledging uncertainty over his authority and stating that New York would act only within existing law.
