State Department Blocks Mamdani Aide Meeting With Iran Envoy

U.S. State Department officials blocked a planned July 7 meeting between Ana Maria Archila, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani's international affairs commissioner, and Amir-Saeid Iravani, Iran's UN envoy, according to reports citing calendar records and officials familiar with the matter. The meeting was scheduled for 2 United Nations Plaza with two other city international-affairs officials, but was canceled after federal officials told the city the contact was not acceptable while Washington and Tehran were trading fire. The meeting did not take place. For Israel and Jewish New Yorkers, the episode sharpened scrutiny of a mayoral team already criticized over Israel, BDS and Iran-war rhetoric.
