Malaysia Bars Civil Servants From Using Waze on Official Duties

Malaysia has barred civil servants from using Waze while carrying out official duties, under a directive dated October 20. The National Cyber Security Agency says the restriction follows a National Cyber Security Committee decision and cites concerns about location data and Israeli jurisdiction. Uninstalling the app is encouraged rather than compulsory. Waze's terms identify its provider, Waze Mobile Ltd., as an Israeli company based in Tel Aviv and assign legal disputes to courts in the Tel Aviv district. NACSA acknowledges it has no evidence that the aggregate analysis of location data it describes has taken place.
