UAE Formally Nominates Lana Nusseibeh for UN Secretary-General

The United Arab Emirates has formally nominated Minister of State Lana Nusseibeh to become the next United Nations secretary-general. President Mohamed bin Zayed sent a letter on Wednesday to the presidents of the General Assembly and Security Council, presenting her diplomatic experience and ability to address international challenges. Nusseibeh served as the UAE’s ambassador to the UN from 2013 to 2024 and twice presided over the Security Council. The next secretary-general is expected to take office in January 2027, succeeding António Guterres.
