Brodet Warns Netanyahu’s Crypto Remarks Could Unsettle Investors

David Brodet, a former Finance Ministry director-general and Bank Leumi chairman, warned in an interview published Sunday evening that Benjamin Netanyahu’s remarks about cryptocurrency as a response to financial sanctions could influence investor expectations. He argued that financial institutions might begin preparing for isolation even before restrictions materialize. Brodet said banking channels underpin trade, production, investment and technology, making broad financial restrictions different from limits on individual goods. He also questioned whether cryptocurrency could replace a functioning banking-based economy, arguing that governments could extend restrictions to digital channels as well.
