Netanyahu and Katz Deny Plans to Dismiss IDF Chief Zamir

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office and Defense Minister Israel Katz denied reports on Monday evening that they intended to dismiss IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir. The denials came on the eve of the October 27 Knesset election. Katz called the dismissal reports fabricated and claimed they were part of security-related misinformation intended to hurt Likud before the vote. He said he had recommended Zamir’s appointment and intended to continue working with him for Israel’s security, while Netanyahu’s office rejected reporting about the prime minister’s relationship with Zamir as false.
