Justt Finds Service Complaints Behind Nearly a Quarter of Contested Card Chargebacks
Published
Justt, a chargeback management company with offices in Tel Aviv, released research on October 27 showing a shift in the reasons shoppers give for disputing card payments. In its dataset, disputes coded as products not received or recurring payments cancelled together accounted for 24.1% of contested chargebacks in the second quarter of 2026, compared with 13.0% a year earlier. The company's benchmark report draws on millions of contested chargebacks processed through its platform across seven industries from July 2024 through June 2026. The share coded as fraud fell from 74.6% in the second quarter of 2025 to 60.4% in the same quarter of 2026. Those figures describe the mix of disputes, rather than demonstrating a decline in the absolute number involving fraud. Justt co-founder and CEO Ofir Tahor said: "For over a decade, chargeback strategy was really fraud strategy." The company interprets the changing mix as evidence that customers increasingly use payment disputes to pursue service complaints. For its growth and mix comparisons, it used a fixed cohort of 165 merchants. The median merchant's contested dispute volume rose 13% year over year. The findings describe contested disputes processed through Justt's own platform across seven industries worldwide; they are not a count of every card dispute in the wider market. Founded in 2020, the company also has offices in New York and London. It said it would present the findings at the virtual ChargebackX conference on November 9–10.
