Hapoel Tel Aviv Mourns Mor Shamli, Widow of Coach Killed in Egypt Terror Attack

Hapoel Tel Aviv Football Club mourned Mor Shamli on Friday, October 30, recalling her support for the youth team that commemorates her husband, Alon. Alon, a coach in the club's youth department, was murdered in a terrorist attack while the couple were traveling in Egypt on October 8, 2023. In its tribute, the club described Mor and her family joining Friday-afternoon sessions at the Hodorov training complex. From the stand, they followed the Hapoel Shavim youth team, named after Alon and supported by the Shamli family. The club said the young players wore red shirts bearing his portrait at matches and training, while Mor cheered in red and carried a flag commemorating him. The club's farewell addressed both Mor and Alon: "We promise to remember you and Alon forever." It conveyed the family's request for privacy and said funeral arrangements would be announced during the following week. The tribute did not announce a funeral date or location. In a December 12, 2023 memorial report, Hapoel Tel Aviv identified Alexandria as the site of the attack and said Alon was 34. That report described the youth side's return to league play with his family and close friends present. His father lit Hanukkah candles, and players embraced Mor after a goal.
