IDF Announces Arrest of Four Alleged Weapons Traders in Jenin

The Israel Defense Forces said Friday that its troops had detained four people it described as terrorists during an operation completed Thursday in the Jenin city area. The military said the four had traded weapons and had previously operated within a Jenin network it said was dismantled during Operation Iron Wall. Its announcements did not report casualties or a weapons seizure. The Hebrew statement said Duvdevan unit soldiers and Paratroopers Brigade troops carried out the operation under Shin Bet direction, with the Menashe Brigade in command. The army's headline also accused the detainees of advancing plans for attacks. Its English announcement said, ‘The terrorists were transferred for further questioning by the security forces.’ The military did not give the detainees' names or identify a faction for any of them. An earlier IDF announcement on October 15 described a separate operation in Jenin. It said Duvdevan soldiers, again directed by Shin Bet in the Menashe Brigade area, detained a person it described as a principal arms dealer for the same Jenin network. According to that statement, the person bought and moved weapons for the network. The army said Operation Iron Wall had targeted terrorist networks in camps in northern Samaria. The October 30 announcement does not say the four detained this week participated in the October 15 case, or that charges have been filed. It identifies further questioning as the next step, without giving a timetable for that process or a court appearance. The military has not provided an account from the detainees in either statement.
