Land Crossings Authority Sets Overnight Lane Closures at Trans-Samaria Crossing
Published
The Ministry of Defense's Land Crossings Authority announced on November 2 that two lanes at the Trans-Samaria crossing on Highway 5 will close overnight for infrastructure work to expand the crossing. The work is scheduled to begin at 21:00 on November 2 and continue until 04:00 on November 3. The temporary restrictions apply to two of the five lanes. In its notice, the authority said: “Traffic will continue in the three remaining lanes.” It identified the overnight operation as infrastructure work for the crossing's expansion. The crossing underwent an earlier expansion in 2024. On May 9 that year, the ministry announced that it had completed and opened a fifth lane. Then-defense minister Yoav Gallant and then-ministry director-general Eyal Zamir inaugurated the expanded crossing together with Shomron Regional Council head Yossi Dagan and Ariel mayor Yair Shetbon. In that 2024 announcement, the ministry described the fifth lane as part of a program to upgrade 16 crossings along the seam line. It said the renewed Rantis crossing had opened several weeks earlier and listed work then underway at Eyal, Eliyahu, Te'enim, Hashmonaim, Mazmoria and Tarqumiya. The latest notice sets out the overnight work schedule at Trans-Samaria.
