Eilat Inaugurates Ariel Sharon Secondary School in Shachmon

Eilat inaugurated the Ariel Sharon secondary school in Shachmon’s Quarter 6 on Thursday, November 5. Mayor Eli Lankri, Gilad Sharon, the former prime minister’s son, and senior Education Ministry representatives attended. It is the city’s first new secondary school in 22 years. The school has already welcomed its first seventh-grade cohort during the 2026–27 school year. It will add a grade each year until it serves grades 7–12. The planned full campus includes three buildings of three storeys each, with 30 classrooms, an auditorium and a library; the inauguration does not mark completion of that entire plan. Principal Limor Katan led a tour of the learning spaces. The school’s educational program emphasizes leadership, entrepreneurship and excellence, alongside marine sciences, marine biotechnology and sailing in cooperation with the Interuniversity Institute for Marine Sciences in Eilat. Lankri told pupils: “We built this home for you, and now the stage is yours.” Students from Rabin accompanied the inaugural cohort, while Goldwater music students and Begin dance students performed. Eilat’s chief rabbi, Rabbi Yair Hadaya, affixed a mezuzah and blessed the school. The ceremony also included a ribbon cutting and the unveiling of a commemorative stone.
