Israeli Expats Launch Code 51 Challenge Before Voter Roll Deadline

Israeli expatriates classified as nonresidents have launched a legal campaign challenging their removal from the voter registry before it is finalized on September 3 for the October 27 election. The “Our Right to Vote – Code 51” initiative says about 150 citizens have organized, while its WhatsApp group includes roughly 120 members across North America, Europe, Australia and South Africa. Attorney Gilead Sher submitted an information request and letters to the Interior Ministry, attorney general and Central Elections Commission, setting a one-week deadline before an emergency petition. The ministry said election law requires voters to appear in the Population Registry as residents with an Israeli address.
