Vance Says Iran Is Willing to Disrupt Gulf Oil Flows, Even Against Allies

U.S. Vice President JD Vance said Iran’s leaders are willing to take extreme steps to reduce oil and gas flows through the Gulf, including firing at their own allies. In an interview aired Monday, he called the leadership “really crazy” and said much of current U.S. activity in the region is aimed at protecting freedom of navigation and commerce through the Strait of Hormuz. Vance said recent U.S. strikes targeted Iranians preparing to lay mines in the strait. He said increased Venezuelan oil production was a welcome benefit but not the reason for U.S. policy.
