Sami Michael: a writing life, and a life in water

Sami Michael was born in Baghdad in 1926 and reached Israel in 1949. His first novel was published in 1974.
Alongside his literary work, Michael spent about 25 years working in hydrology. Hydrology studies water, including its movement and distribution.
His novel A Trumpet in the Wadi was published in 1987. Haifa’s municipal program for 18 September 2026 at Rappaport Hall marked the centenary of his birth by advertising excerpts from the novel and songs in Hebrew and Arabic.
The advertised program also listed archival recordings of Michael and a running time of 100 minutes. These details describe the municipal program, rather than independently verified attendance or completed performances.
