Haifa Marks Sami Michael Centenary With 100-Minute Tribute

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of a contextual 2015 view over Haifa toward the Mediterranean, with hillside rooftops, dense city blocks and distant ships; it does not depict the Sami Michael centenary tribute.

Haifa marked the centenary of author Sami Michael with a 100-minute tribute at Rappaport Hall beginning at noon Friday. The municipal program combined a panel discussion, theatrical excerpts, Hebrew and Arabic singing, and archival recordings of Michael. Anat Sharon-Blais moderated a panel with Avigdor Feldman, Manal Shalabi, Haim Be’er and David Peretz. Actors Hanan Hilu and Vladislav Pesakhovich performed excerpts from Michael’s novel A Trumpet in the Wadi, while Mary Manasa, Idan Toledano, Johanna Rittmuller and the HAWA ensemble provided music. Admission was listed at NIS 30.
