CAMERA Urges Media to Revisit Gaza Journalist Casualty Reports

CAMERA called at 11:11 IDT on major news organizations to revisit CPJ-sourced Gaza journalist-casualty reports after CPJ began reviewing its Gaza database. CPJ says the review began after Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad obituaries identified as combatants individuals previously listed as journalists; it has removed eight Hamas or PIJ combatants and 12 others, with the rest due in July. CAMERA named CBS, BBC, Reuters, The Washington Post, CNN, AP, PBS, MS Now and The New York Times among outlets that used CPJ claims without enough scrutiny. Israel is right to demand that terror groups not turn press credentials into strategic cover, while actual journalists deserve protection from Hamas intimidation and battlefield danger.
