Jericho Wall Probe Chief Says IDF Misread Hamas

Maj. Gen. (res.) Roni Numa, appointed by Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir to review the IDF's handling of the Jericho Wall intelligence, said in first public remarks that Israel failed to understand that it did not understand Hamas. Numa criticized overreliance on technology, saying Arabic-speaking human expertise could not simply be replaced by speech-to-text systems. Emerging findings point to a deep, decade-long misconception across multiple chiefs of staff and intelligence leaders, with detailed Hamas invasion material in Israeli hands by 2022 but not translated into operational readiness. The pro-Israel lesson is accountability: learn honestly, rebuild intelligence humility and make sure Hamas never again exploits Israeli assumptions.
