High Court Orders Netanyahu to Explain PMO Chief Delay

The High Court of Justice on July 5 issued a conditional order requiring Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to answer by August 13 why he has not appointed an acting director-general for the Prime Minister's Office. The panel is led by Supreme Court President Yitzhak Amit with Justices Khaled Kabub and Yechiel Kasher. The dispute follows Yossi Shelley's February 2025 exit for Israel's UAE ambassadorship, Drorit Steinmetz's acting tenure and Netanyahu's effort to make her appointment permanent despite legal objections tied to the May Golan investigation. Israel needs elected leadership and clean senior appointments that preserve public trust.
