IDF Completes Defense Overhaul After October 7 Lessons
Current July 6 Israel-time reporting says the IDF has completed major changes to defense doctrine, readiness orders and force structure after the October 7 failure. The army shifted from line-of-border defense to forward defense; since the war began it has held about 1,220 square kilometers in enemy territory, giving Israeli communities a larger buffer against Hamas, Hezbollah and other Iranian-backed threats. The new Raam order lets division and command chiefs immediately call up regular and reserve forces for single-front or multi-front crises, with wider response menus, shorter alert times and reinforced battalions. A new Operations Directorate security brigade is being formed, and Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir says the IDF will keep removing Hezbollah threats and can shift quickly to attack if the ceasefire is violated.
