Iceland Opens First Jewish Center in Reykjavik

Iceland's Jewish community inaugurated the Beit Shvidler Jewish Center in Reykjavik, the country's first permanent Jewish center and cultural home. The renovated three-story building gives the small community a synagogue, kosher shop, community kitchen, youth space, library lounge, security center, Jewish-history exhibition and a geothermal mikvah that sources describe as planned or not yet operational. Rabbi Avraham and Mushky Feldman, Chabad emissaries active in Iceland since 2018, led the project after years of Shabbat meals, holiday services and Jewish learning in temporary spaces. For roughly 100 to 300 local Jews and thousands of Jewish visitors, the center is a visible, dignified anchor for Torah life under the Northern Lights.
