Kuwait's military said early Monday that its air-defense systems were engaging hostile aerial targets inside the country's airspace. It said explosion sounds heard by residents came from interceptions and urged citizens and residents to follow official safety instructions. The announcement provided independent Kuwaiti confirmation of active defenses after Iran's military claimed a new drone and missile round against U.S. positions and air-defense facilities in Kuwait. Neither Kuwait nor the United States had reported casualties or confirmed damage at publication time, as renewed U.S.-Iran exchanges around the Strait of Hormuz continued to threaten the security of U.S.-aligned Gulf states.
