South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster appointed Darline Graham Nordone on Monday to complete the U.S. Senate term of her late brother, Lindsey Graham, through Jan. 3, 2027. Nordone is expected to be sworn in this week and will become the first woman to represent South Carolina in the Senate. President Donald Trump publicly backed her selection. Nordone said it was a privilege to finish some of her brother’s important work; Graham had raised her after their parents died. A special Republican primary for the next full term is scheduled for Aug. 11, and Nordone has not said whether she will run.
