Military Intelligence Pushes Analysts Forward in Post-October 7 Overhaul

Israel's Military Intelligence Directorate is moving analysts closer to combat units as part of its overhaul after the October 7 warning failure. The plan doubles battalion intelligence officers, establishes forward intelligence centers at division and brigade levels, and connects intelligence directly to fire coordination so commanders receive real-time pictures. Training now stresses field familiarity, junior-rank challenge and listening to dissent, while analysts are expected to operate with maneuvering forces. The directorate also acknowledges that technology alone cannot prevent another conceptual failure and says commanders must question assumptions and avoid the overconfidence that preceded the Hamas attack.
