U.S. House Adopts Temple Mount Religious-Freedom Amendment

The U.S. House adopted Rep. Claudia Tenney's amendment by voice vote, directing attention to religious freedom and equal access for all at the Temple Mount. The measure reduces and increases U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom funding by $1 million, a budget-neutral adjustment emphasizing those rights at Judaism's holiest site, which is also sacred to Muslims and Christians. Tenney told lawmakers that Jews do not enjoy the same access and prayer rights as other faiths. The amendment reinforces her separate resolution affirming Israel's sovereignty over the site and Jerusalem as Israel's undivided capital.
