Likud Proposal Would Replace Primaries During Security Escalation

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Likud local-authority leaders that a new proposal for the party's primary rules includes a security-escalation clause. Under the clause, an escalation would cancel the vote for Likud's Knesset slate and an appointments committee would select the candidates instead. The proposal was scheduled to go before the party's Constitution Committee later Sunday. The disclosure came three days after the Lod District Court halted an earlier vote over Netanyahu's proposed reserved positions and required all Likud members to participate in a rules change.
