Likud Court Rejects Primary Cancellation During Security Emergencies

The Likud Court rejected a proposed clause that would have allowed the party to cancel its primaries during a security emergency, issuing its ruling Saturday night before Monday's party convention. It said postponement should be the first and preferred response to an emergency and directed the party to prepare for electronic voting if polling stations cannot operate. The panel said the party constitution is a contract with members and that failing to hold primaries would breach it. The court also approved moving a primary winner into a reserved list slot and authorized placement of a New Hope candidate on the joint Knesset slate, subject to safeguards for elected Likud candidates.
