State Attorney Weighs Charging Former Firearms Licensing Chief

State Attorney Amit Aisman is considering charging Israel Avishar, the former head of the National Security Ministry’s Firearms Licensing Division, with fraud and breach of trust, subject to a hearing. Prosecutors allege that after the October 7 attack and the outbreak of the Swords of Iron war, Avishar allowed personnel without legal authorization to issue firearm licenses to Israeli citizens. Those personnel allegedly issued about 23,000 conditional approvals and 15,000 final licenses. The National Fraud Investigations Unit in Lahav 433 investigated the case. Avishar may present arguments at the hearing before prosecutors make a final indictment decision.
