U.S. Intelligence Says Mojtaba Khamenei More Open to Pursuing Nuclear Weapon

U.S. intelligence agencies assess that Iran's new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, is more open than his father to pursuing a nuclear weapon, according to officials briefed on the findings. The assessment does not conclude that Khamenei has ordered construction of a bomb, and much of the intelligence about his views predates the current war. His father had renounced nuclear weapons through a religious ruling. Officials said the younger Khamenei remains in charge despite wounds from the February 28 U.S.-Israeli strike, but exercises less absolute authority as hard-line figures gain influence.
