Government Set to Extend Emergency Call-Up Authority for 240,000 Reservists

The government is set to authorize the IDF to call up as many as 240,000 reservists through September 30, replacing the current ceiling of 280,000 that expires at the end of July. The figure is a legal maximum, not the number expected to serve at once. The proposal cites continuing operational needs across Gaza, Lebanon and Iran, alongside heightened activity in Judea and Samaria after recent terrorist attacks. The Defense Ministry’s legal adviser warned that repeated extended call-ups continue to concentrate a severe burden on a relatively small group of reservists, their families and employers.
