Herzl's Grandparents to Be Reinterred Beside Him in Jerusalem

The remains of Shimon and Rivka Herzl, grandparents of Theodor Herzl, are expected to arrive from Belgrade in the coming days for reinterment beside him on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. The state ceremony is scheduled for August 5, marking 77 years since the Zionist visionary was reburied in the capital, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog expected to attend. World Zionist Organization chairman Yaakov Hagoel led the initiative with Serbian authorities and Belgrade's Jewish community. Shimon Herzl, a synagogue warden close to early Zionist thinker Rabbi Judah Alkalai, helped shape his grandson's Jewish and Zionist outlook.
