Firefighters Rescue Worker From Cargo Hold at Southern Port

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of firefighters carrying an injured worker across a cargo ship deck between silver-wrapped cargo bundles

A worker was moderately injured after falling about nine meters into a ship's cargo hold at the southern port during work on Wednesday. Firefighters from the Ashdod station, joined by special rescue units from Ashkelon and Rehovot, operated with specialized equipment in complex conditions. The teams lifted the worker from the hold and brought him back to the surface. He was transferred to Magen David Adom crews for further treatment after the rescue; the initial report did not identify the worker or disclose what caused the fall.
