Iran Says It Hit Two Hormuz Tankers as Four Others Turn Back

Oil prices rose more than 1% Friday after Iran said it had hit or stopped two vessels trying to exit the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian state media said four other tankers turned back after its forces intervened, while the claim remained independently unconfirmed. Two large tankers carrying Gulf oil and two other commodity vessels still transited, according to shipping data. The strait normally carries about one-fifth of global energy shipments, and Iran has blocked most traffic during the five-month conflict with the United States and Israel.
